Vanity

The theme of this piece isn't very uplifting, but it is a good illustration of the art of its time. This plaque is a copy on porcelain of an anonymous 18th century painting.
The theme of vanity reminds us of the uselessness of various pleasures (here music, gambling, literature, fine dinning...) when faced with death, which is represented by the skull.
This piece had to be fired many times and I worked on it for over 20 hours to replicate the detail of the painting onto the plaque.

Medicis bowl

I purchased this Chastagner bowl on impulse, but it was difficult to find the perfect design to paint on it.
I thought about it long and hard, and did research on appropriate designs, in order to fin
d these patterns inspired from antique pieces.
Only then could the real work start - a thin layer of red, then another, before even starting on the gold work: rims, leaves, but most of all the accurate positioning of the 288 branches of the lattice-work... Hours of work summed up in a few words.
Then, to finish it off, hour after hour of work to polish the gold.
